SECTION - C: WRITING

7ঃ Write a story (in about 100 words) using the following hints. Give a title to your story. (Hints: A dog crossing a bridge over a stream — a piece of flesh in mouth — sees the image in water — takes it for another dog — becomes greedy — jumps down.)

Answer:

THE GREEDY DOG

Once upon a time, a dog managed to get a piece of flesh from a butcher’s shop. He was very happy and wanted to eat it in a quiet place. On his way, he had to cross a small bridge over a stream.

While crossing the bridge, the dog stopped and looked down into the clear water below. He saw his own reflection in the water but mistook it for another dog holding a piece of flesh in its mouth. The foolish dog became greedy. He wanted to have that piece of flesh too. Without thinking, he jumped down into the stream to snatch the meat from the other dog. But alas! There was no other dog. He realized his mistake, but it was too late. His own piece of flesh was washed away by the current, and he had to remain hungry.

Moral: Greed brings sorrow. (অথবা: Grasp all, lose all.)

Question 9: Write a letter (in about 100 words) to your cousin advising him/her to plant saplings or new plants during rainy season. Your letter should include reasons why you are advising him/her to plant trees every year and why rainy season is chosen for tree plantation.

Answer (Personal Letter):

[Your Own Address] (e.g., Station Road, Barasat) Date: February 03, 2026

My Dear Riki,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. Today I am writing to you about something very important—tree plantation.

As the rainy season has just arrived, I strongly advise you to plant at least a few saplings in your garden or surrounding areas. You know that trees are our best friends; they provide us with oxygen and protect the environment from global warming. We must plant trees every year to save our planet.

The rainy season is the best time for planting because the soil remains moist, and natural rainwater helps the young plants to take root easily and grow faster without much extra care. I hope you will follow my advice and contribute to a greener earth.

Give my regards to your parents.

Yours lovingly, [Your Name]
